RCCQ TOURING EVENTS CODE

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this code is to maintain uniformity in R.C.C.Q. Touring Events and to ensure that all competitors, from the "experts" to the "novices", complete the course and have an enjoyable though occasionally frustrating time.

PERSONS ELIGIBLE

All members of the R.C.C.Q. and invited clubs may enter Touring Events. Membership cards may be called for at any time. There is no limit (save that imposed by the legal seating capacity of the vehicle) on passengers but a driver and navigator must be nominated at the starts for the purpose of points to be awarded.

SCORING

Points may be lost by any or all of the following means:

1 point per minute late or early at the finish (competitors may nominate if early, without penalty).

10 points per incorrect answer or non-supplied answer or item required.

30 points for missed control, traffic breach or any offence not listed (at the director's discretion).

Further methods of gaining or losing points may be introduced by individual organisers but these may not contradict the above and must be clearly stated in the regulations or instructions.

POINTSCORE ALLOCATION

The point score allocation for competitors and officials will be as per the R.C.C.Q. Competition Rules.

START LOCATION

A central safe location set by the director of the event.

STREETS

(a)     All "No Through Roads" and one way streets shall be deemed to exist.

(b)      Where an intersection has been islanded, the navigator shall assume that the islands do not exist and count streets accordingly.  Instructions will not lead cars on a chase around the islands.

(c)      Organisers should be aware of the often inexplicable way that streets join separate and change name.

(d)      On a divided road where streets are not directly accessible they shall be deemed not to exist.

INTERSECTIONS/TURNS

N.B. The angle is permitted some variation, as street alignments are not always true.

T-Junction - Angle is close to 90 deg.

Right Turn - Angle is 90 deg.

Hard Turn - Angle is from 0 to 60 deg.

Bear Turn - Angle is from 60 to 0 deg.

Cross-roads only if angle is 90 deg. If roads are offset, ample description must be supplied in the route instructions.

CONTROLS

The only types of controls to be used are

(a)                Start and Finish Controls.

(b)               Passage Controls to record the passage of a competitor.

(c)                Traffic Breach Controls - may record the time only as part of a speed traps or note any deviation from the traffic code.

All controls must be at least 20 metres from any intersection and must not be placed where a competitor will breach the traffic regulations if he/she enters correctly.

QUESTIONS

(a)      All questions or clues must be on the LEFT of the route, in a SAFE POSITION and not inside a marked property line where private dwellings are concerned and must not be in a position that may require competitors to shine a light on any private dwelling.

(b)      The correct answer to questions will be the first possible answer.

Questions will not be counted as directions; therefore they must simply be slotted in between two route instructions, the aim being that the route could be followed without seeking the answers to any questions at all.

ADDITIONS

Several times in the instructions, street intersections and direction of travel, should be named so if any competitor is lost they will be able to restart the run.

Any further additions to these rules must be clearly stated in the supplementary regulations at the start of an event.
